Tankiest build on site?

Guy I’m a relatively new player and have been playing for 2 leagues with legion being the 1st I’ve progressed beyond white maps. However I find myself hitting a wall with t12+ maps. I think I might do better with tankier builds than what I have used in the past. With that in mind I would like to ask which build available in this site would survive well even in red maps. The build would ideally have high damage avoidance in the form of armor, dodge, block or w/e else scales well. Being new to the game I’m not very aware of how to dodge many boss attacks yet so builds which require significant player skill will not be ideal. I’ve tried the baron zombies build, flicker strike slayer, HFT chieftain, and shattering steel champ. Is there a build that would be significantly tankier than these or would yall advise I try regearing one of these and try to progress further in the atlas?

Generally the Juggernaut ascendancy class reaches very good damage mitigation while also having respectable damage output. If you have some currency saved up I’d recommend trying out the Molten Strike Juggernat. If not, the Essence Drain Trickster or Occulstist are two very reliable and budget-friendly ES builds that can tank up alot of hits and still reach very high damage numbers.

Mollten strike juggernaut seems like what I would be able to work with well. The uniques seem pretty cheap right now, will try it out. Thank you!

I would also recommend the Blade Flurry Gladiator build for a very tanky, shield-using character. It’s fun, has nice enemy-shatters, and it’s not too expensive (though you can also pour a lot of budget into it if you want).

Gone ahead and started with molten striker, still in campaign but ya doing well.

And regarding blade flurry, I’m not to sure that I can manage to properly use a channeling skill that keeps me locked in place while I use it. But maybe I will test it out after this molten strike build.

While I concur with the others that commented, I just wanted to throw out a few things to consider in the future as well.

For newer players I definitely double-down and recommend Juggernaut, Gladiator, Champion, and certain Templar Builds. Due to their position on the tree these are some of the most “traditionally tanky” archetypes in the game.

Survivability and defense is a bit relative in this game, and there are some intangible elements that depend on playstyle and player skill. For example, certain Slayer and Ascendant builds might stack leech, and coupled with the overleech passive, you will never see your healthbar dip with enough damage. Other builds have extremely high mobility — an Elemental Hit build will have an easier time avoiding damage than a Cyclone build, but the amount of damage either build is able to avoid is based on the level of the player as well.

Certain Ascendancies are more complex than others but can be extremely potent if you understand how to exploit them. Trickster is widely considered to be one of the most overpowered Ascendancies in the game defensively, but it takes certain items, setups, flask usage, and so on to get the most out of. On the other hand, Juggernaut builds are ideal for all levels of player because they boil down to you walking in and being an immediate brick wall. They have their own disadvantages as well, but you’re not likely to notice them if you’re newer to the game or not dealing with all of the end-game content yet.

Finally, and building off the previous point, there are power curves to certain build archetypes. Witch builds are notorious for being relatively squishy out of the gate, but once they can start spreading across the tree and they reach the late-game they also have the potential of becoming one of the “tankiest” classes. Once that same Witch has Phase Acrobatics, Mind Over Matter, and 9-10 effective Life pool, she might even be a lot more survivable than a Juggernaut build in many situations, but if you can’t get the build to that point, none of it matters.

TL;DR — Definitely Juggernaut while learning (from a pure defense perspective), but you’ll feel the game open up to you more with a few leagues under your belt. Good luck!
