Damage totem skill

Hi everybody.

This is my first thread on this forum, so dont be so rude :P

I consider my self as a completely noob on this game.

When leveling, i realized that i have a totem spell that deals and insane damage. I mean, i followed other guides before and none o them had this amount of damage. I look for something and i didnt find a guide based on this, so probably is completely useless on high level, but i want to know your opinion.

I have this 6 link:
Flame Surge
Concentrated Effect Support
Faster Casting Support
Elemental Damage with Attacks Support
Spell Totem Support
Multiple Totems Support

And with that, the totem deals 2K dps. is it normal? I mean, i followed other guides and i didnt reach this damage even at lvl 70

Hey, Flame Surge is a great single target skill. It can also be used for clearing while utilizing totems. There are some things I’d strongly recommend. Elemental Damage with Attacks Support does not affect the skill whatsoever simply because it is a Spell and not an Attack. You can replace it with Fire Penetration Support, Controlled Destruction Support or Elemental Focus Support. Another thing that Flame Surge is greatly benefiting from is igniting/burning the enemy so the totems themselves will deal a lot more damage. You can achieve that by throwing Fire Trap for example and while the enemy is in the burning ground effect your Flame Surge totems will deal significantly more damage.

The concept of your setup/build is what we call “hypster” in Path of Exile, meaning you are trying something that is out of the “meta”. This does not mean it is bad and I myself have played a ton of “hypster” builds that I theory-crafted myself and I can only encourage you to learn the game in that fun way. 2k damage per totem is quite low when it comes to a level 70 character, but I am sure you will get better as you play more, as we all do. Hey, welcome to the forum! Don’t worry, we were all noobs once. That totem setup you have sounds pretty crazy with 2K DPS, and honestly, that seems really strong for leveling. Sometimes certain combinations just hit harder than the usual guides show, so it’s always fun to experiment.
